CAMELS VOTE

Connecticut College's student-run, non-partisan civic engagement initiative.

Our Mission

At Camels Vote, we believe in the power of student voices and the importance of civic engagement. We are dedicated to increasing civic engagement at Connecticut College through voting and beyond.

What We Do

College students often don't vote because they miss deadlines or don't know how to vote from school.

We hold registration drives to help students make a voting plan, register to vote, request absentee ballots, send their ballots to the right place, and tackle any voting questions they may have. We work to mobilize our campus community and advocate for voting rights. We get Camels excited about democracy through engagement events like phone banking, debate watch parties, Storm the Dorms, and Goats for Votes!

In 2024, Conn won the Pledge to Vote Challenge, with the highest percentage of college students pledged to vote in the U.S. We successfully prepared the campus for the election, registering hundreds of students and helping them get their ballots in.

Recent Initiatives

SAVE Act Phone Banking

Students used their voices to protect voting rights at a phone banking event with Camels Vote. Participants urged their representatives to vote “No” on the SAVE Act, which would create unnecessary barriers to voting. They wrote emails and called their representatives with the help of ambassadors.

Congressional Debate

Camels Vote helped organize and sponsor a congressional debate on campus. Students submitted questions for the candidates that Camels Vote ambassador, Sophia Wiliams '26, posed as a panelist. Volunteers staffed the event as timekeepers and ushers.

Rides to the Polls

We shuttled students to the polls during the Vote Early period and on Election Day until the polls closed. Volunteers tabled around campus, ensuring every eligible student had the opportunity to vote. We assisted students who missed their absentee deadlines— helping them vote in New London.

National Voter Registration Day

We held a campus-wide registration drive for NVRD, during which we assisted over 100 students in registering to vote, requesting their absentee ballots, or making a plan to vote on Election Day. We collaborated with The League of Women Voters, who assisted students with their voting questions.

Storm the Dorms

Volunteers hung door hangers on every door of the 17 dorm buildings on campus with essential voting information before the 2024 General Election to ensure every eligible student had the info they needed to get their ballot in.
