Maryland offers 8 days of in-person early voting and same-day registration at early voting centers and on Election Day. No-excuse mail voting is available to all registered voters.

Registration deadline
21 days before Election Day (online/mail). Same-day registration available at early voting centers and Election Day polling places.
Early voting
8 days of early voting beginning the 2nd Thursday before Election Day through the Thursday before.
Absentee / mail-in
Mail-in request must be received by 7 days before Election Day (in person 8:00 PM Election Day). Ballot must be postmarked by Election Day and received within 10 days.
ID requirements
Generally no ID required at the polls. First-time voters who registered by mail without verified ID may need to show ID.
Election Day hours
Polls open 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time. If you are in line at 8:00 PM, you can vote.

  • Same-day registration is available at any early voting center and at your Election Day polling place.
  • Permanent absentee status is available — apply once and receive a ballot automatically every election.
  • Drop boxes are available throughout the state — ballots can be dropped off through 8:00 PM Election Day.
