Mississippi requires registration 30 days before Election Day and photo ID at the polls. The state does not offer no-excuse early voting; in-person absentee voting with an excuse is the alternative.

30 days before Election Day (postmarked).
Early voting
No early voting. In-person absentee voting (with a qualifying excuse) is available at your circuit clerk's office starting 45 days before Election Day.
Absentee / mail-in
In-person absentee available through 12:00 PM Saturday before Election Day. Mail ballot must be received by 5:00 PM the day before Election Day (or postmarked by Election Day and received within 5 business days).
ID requirements
Photo ID required (Mississippi DL/ID, US passport, military ID, tribal ID, or free state voter ID).
Election Day hours
Polls open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time. If you are in line at 7:00 PM, you can vote.

  • Mississippi does not offer online voter registration — you must use a paper form.
  • Absentee voting requires a qualifying excuse such as being 65+, disabled, or out of the county.
