Primary Election: August 11, 2026
Connecticut holds a closed partisan primary. To vote, you must be registered with a political party. Polls open 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Party-affiliation deadline: register or affiliate online at voterregistration.ct.gov by July 24, 2026. Unaffiliated voters can also affiliate in person at the City Clerk's designated location the day before voting.

Do I have to register with a party to vote in this election?
You are required to register with a party to participate in Connecticut partisan primary elections. You should register with the party whose primary you would like to vote in.
How do I register with a party?
You will be able to indicate a party affiliation when you register to vote. If you already registered, visit the Connecticut Secretary of State website to find instructions for updating party affiliations.

How do I vote in a primary?
You may cast a ballot in Connecticut primary elections in person on Election Day, during early voting, or by absentee ballot if you are eligible. If you select a political party when registering, you will receive that party's ballot when you vote.
Can I still vote in a primary election if I do not register with a party?
If you do not register with a party in Connecticut, you cannot vote in a partisan primary election.

What are the deadlines to update my party?
If you are registered but not affiliated:
- In person at designated location: the day before you vote in person (early voting or Election Day)
- Online at voterregistration.ct.gov: July 24
- By mail (received by): July 24
If you are already affiliated with a party and want to switch parties, the deadline to update has passed for the August 11 primary. You can still vote in your currently affiliated party's primary.
General Election: November 3, 2026
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls open 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Early voting: October 19 – November 1, 2026. No party affiliation is required — every registered voter can vote in the general election.

1. Print and complete the mail-in registration form.
This is the same form that is required for day-of registration. You can also pick one up in person at City Hall.

2. Complete the form with the following:
- Use your residential college address as your residential and mailing address. A list of campus mailing addresses is available from the College's Mail Center. You do not need proof of residency.
- You can use your Conn College Student ID, or any official document with your name and address on it. You do not need a paper copy; a digital version on your phone is acceptable.

3. Bring the form and your Conn College Student ID to City Hall.
Walk in during posted registration, early voting, or Election Day hours. A poll worker will process your registration and you'll cast your ballot in the same visit.
